It is someone seeking a man or woman experienced in the spiritual life who will listen to them and give them a word of guidance on how to live a spiritual life. There are many stories from the Desert Fathers of a young monk going to an older monk for a word of guidance such as the one below;

A brother asked a hermit, “Tell me something good that I may do it and live by it.” The Hermit said, “God alone knows what is good but I have heard that one of the hermits asked the great Nesteros, who was a friend of Antony, ‘What good work shall I do?’” He said, “Surely all works please God equally? Scripture says, Abraham was hospitable and God was with him; Elijah loved quiet and God was with him; David was humble and God was with him. So, whatever you find you are drawn to in following God’s will, do it and let your heart be at peace.”

We live in a time that challenges our spirit and this can even cause us to doubt the meaning of our life. This can make us feel lost, confused and unsure on how to proceed in our spiritual journey. Sometimes all we need is to have someone listen to us, to share our thoughts with and maybe give us a word or two of guidance.

From this experience I felt called to spiritual mentoring and after retirement I pursued this calling. Now I would like to return the many blessings that God has given to me by helping others on their spiritual journey.” John Waligorski

“We all want progress, but if you’re on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive. C. S. Lewis
