So many of us are seeking something greater than ourselves but we are not sure on how to begin and there is an increasing need for the accompaniment of a spiritual guide who listens to our questions, concerns and situations as we attempt to deepen our relationship with God.
We are all pilgrims in this world and each of our lives can be seen as a journey back to our heavenly home. Some of us are just beginning the journey while others are further along on the roads of life. Those who are further along have life experience and can act as a guide to those who are just beginning their spiritual journey. A spiritual director is not a psychologist, counsellor or a lifestyle coach. They are strictly a spiritual companion who is there to walk with us on our spiritual journey. A good spiritual director tells you where to look but never what to see. They are “a finger pointing to the moon”.

“I came of age in 1972 and in my early twenties, “I found myself lost in a dark wood” as Dante refers to his life at the beginning of his Divine Comedy. Why? because after the turbulent 60’s and the radical changes that occurred in the church after Vatican II, I found that the world and the church were becoming a very different place and I didn’t have male mentors to guide me. My father passed on in 1975, I was estranged from my uncles and I didn’t have close male friends. I stumbled through life making my way as best I could, falling on my face many times but always finding myself getting up and moving forward. Before I discovered spiritual direction in 1993, I found guidance in the books of men such as J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Thomas Merton, St. Augustine and other good and upright men and I thank God every day for books. Becoming a good role model for my son’s as well as my daughters has always been important and guided me through life. To be a good Christian man is what I strive for every day. Now I would like to return the blessings that God has given to me by helping others on their spiritual journey.” John Waligorski
“One of the tasks of true friendship is to listen compassionately and creatively to the hidden silences. Often secrets are not revealed in words, they lie concealed in the silence between the words or in the depth of what is unsayable between two people.”
